The Tecnam P2012 Traveller is a modern, versatile general aviation aircraft developed by Italian aircraft manufacturer Costruzioni Aeronautiche Tecnam. The P2012 was designed to meet the increasing demand for efficient, reliable, and cost-effective commuter aircraft, catering particularly to short regional routes, island-hopping services, and pilot training operations. This twin-engine, high-wing aircraft serves as a successor to older models like the Cessna 402 and Britten-Norman Islander, which had been the mainstay of short-haul operators for decades but were becoming increasingly outdated and costly to maintain. The P2012’s development began in earnest in response to a request from both airlines and the general aviation community for a modern aircraft that combines performance, comfort, and low operating costs. The design and production effort was spearheaded by Tecnam with substantial input from Cape Air, a key launch customer, which was seeking a replacement for its aging fleet. First flying in July 2016, the P2012 was subsequently certified by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in December 2018, followed by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification in 2019. The P2012 is powered by two Lycoming TEO-540-C1A engines, notable for their robustness and fuel efficiency. The aircraft features a modern Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite, providing state-of-the-art navigational and operational support to pilots. Its spacious cabin can accommodate up to eleven passengers, offering a blend of comfort and durability, which is ideal for short regional flights.
