(-23) AFTER DEPARTURE FROM DENVER CO (DEN) TO GARDEN CITY KS (DCK), AT APPROXIMATELY 12,500 FEET MSL AT CLIMB POWER THE #1 ENGINE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE COMPRESSOR STALLS AND AN INCREASE IN ITT OF APPROXIMATELY 50 DEG. C. POWER WAS RETARDED AND THE ITT STABILIZED AROUND 750 DEG. C. AIR TURNED BACK TO DENVER WITH ENGINE STABILIZED EXCEPT FOR OIL PRESSURE WHICH HAD FALLEN TO 70 PSI. TWO TO THREE MINUTES LATER THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND ITT WAS INCREASING. ENGINE SHUTDOWN PROCEDURES WERE INITIATED AND SHUTDOWN WAS NORMAL. AN UNEVENTFUL SINGLE ENGINE LANDING WAS MADE IN DEN ON RUNWAY 17L. NO EXTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE, ENGINE COWL OR AIRFRAME. DAMAGE APPEARS TO BE LIMITED TO INTERNAL COMPONENTS OF THE #1 ENGINE GAS GENERATOR S/N PCE 114179. THE ENGINE WAS REMOVED AND REPLACED AND AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE. THE DEFECTIVE ENGINE HAS BEEN SHIPPED OUT FOR EVALUATION AND REPAIR.
