Description
THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONFIGURED FOR AIR AMBULANCE OPERATIONS. THE PATIENT WEIGHT WAS 350 LBS. AND MEDIC WEIGHT WAS OVER 200 LBS. BASED ON TOTAL WEIGHT, THE PILOT CALCULATED RUNWAY NEEDED FOR TAKEOFF AND DETERMINED THE HALFWAY POINT WAS THE DECISION LENGTH FOR BEING AIRBORNE. THE RUNWAY IS 1500 FT. WITH A NE HEADING AND THE WINDS WERE CALM WHEN THE PILOT BEGAN A NORMAL TAKEOFF ROLL. THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT LIFT OFF BEFORE DECISION LENGTH AND PILOT INITIATED AN ABORTED TAKEOFF. THE AIRCRAFT SLID ON THE GRAVEL APPROXIMATELY 700 FEET, EXITING THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND COMING TO REST IN BRUSH APPROXIMATELY 80 FT. FROM THE NORTH EAST END OF THE RUNWAY. THE RESULTING DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE NOSE GEAR AND PROPELLER.
